Android: installed a custom ROM with Android 4.0.4 ICS on my HTC Desire

A while back I rooted my HTC Desire and went for the Oxygen 2.3.2 custom ROM with Android Gingerbread 2.3.7 on it. A very stable, smooth, fast and clean ROM for every day use. Today I decided it was time to try out one of the custom ROMs out there with Android IceCreamSandwich 4.0.4 on it and made my choice for the Sandvold Beta 0.6.1.1 because after some reading it seemed the most stable and least buggy one out there. So I formatted my SD, wiped all data and did a standard install. Then I followed the advice on Sandvold’s website and created a partition on my SD card of 512 MB and this now acts as the internal memory. So much more space for apps, which is a life savior on the HTC Desire with its limited internal memory. Because I am still using the original 4 GB SD card it is a bit slow at start up an right after the boot but once everything is loaded it is working fine. Not that fast and smooth as the Oxygen mod but hey I am using an old and slower SD card as internal memory instead of the much faster RAM. I might consider buying a much faster SD card to overcome the slight lag. Although the lag is there, its not too disturbing and still makes the device very usable. Currently I am really excited about how everything looks, the new features and ICS in general but I will be testing it the next coming days, weeks… and I am especially curious about the battery usage. I will keep you updated…

Android app: Friendcaster for Facebook

Friendcaster for Facebook is a 3rd party app to use Facebook on your Android device, I compared it with the official Facebook app and I must say it has some advantages. The most important ones for me is that it is smaller in size (8MB instead 15! MB that the official app uses) and it is much more responsive. It is ad supported so you would need to upgrade to Pro to get rid of the ads, although they are not disturbing.

Friendcaster for Facebook – the best Facebook experience on Android devices!

Friendcaster is the #1 third party Facebook app available for Android with over 3,000,000 downloads and thousands of positive reviews.

Update on the pooping bird

Today I received an email from a fellow Reddittor jer872 that was creative with the laser pooping bird I posted a couple of days ago, I just could not stop laughing at this and I wonder how many other people are setting this as their Facebook cover:
